IF I DON’T SEE YOU, I DON’T KNOW YOU: THE IMPORTANCE OF VISUALS

One of the key elements of building a brand as an artist is MUSIC VIDEOS. A few solid videos behind the right tracks can massively change where you are as an artist even within a year… why? Because we get to SEE YOU!!! We get to see where you’re from, how you dress, what your interests are, what your mindset is when you’re creating, and most importantly how the song makes YOU feel! Music videos are the one thing that can communicate your message and brand to your fans better than just your songs alone!

CONSISTENCY AND QUALITY ARE EVERYTHING! A half-assed visual will honestly do nothing but hurt you. Energy is very real. There’s nothing worse than blatantly seeing the lack of passion in someone’s face in a music video. The second they don’t feel you, THEY’RE GONE! Put your all in that shit! Even if it’s a simple run and gun video, MAKE US FEEL YOU! Smile, cry, pop your shit! EXPRESS YOURSELF!!!

Past run and guns, if you have a storyline, TREATMENTS ARE NECESSARY!!!

Sit down and create a complete vision from beginning to end of exactly what you see! Story, key shots, equipment you’ll need, even down to the lighting if possible (you can find treatment templates online). Things will change, things will go wrong, but having as much as possible up front will save you so much time and allow for way more creative freedom in the long run! (AND P.S. IF YOU’RE DECIDING TO ACT— FUCKING ACT!!!)

Once you get your system down, STAY CONSISTENT!!! Locking in with a videographer is obviously the ideal situation, but if you lack the budget for that or simply can’t find one in your area, you can pull off a lot of crazy stuff with just creativity and a phone! YouTube U is undefeated! Thug it out with a tripod, be like Wallo on the street corners, pay your little cousin to be your cameraman! Do what you can with what you have, things will snowball faster than you think!!! Sending love!
